How to prepare for your first virtual session.

1. Download Zoom

  • You will need to install an app called Zoom (link below). Your learner will use Zoom to connect to the live session. Downloading the app is easy and takes about 10 seconds. You don’t need to set up a personal Zoom account to access sessions, so you can stop when you get to the sign-up screen.

2. Test Zoom

  • Join a test meeting with your learner to make sure Zoom is working properly on your device

  • Have your learner practice:

  • Turn off/turn on microphone

  • Turn off/turn on video

  • Click the ‘Participants’ button and use the ‘raise hand’ button

  • Click the ‘Chat’ button and type ‘hello’ into the chat box

3. Prepare for class

  • Review the Participant and Virtual Code of Conduct.

  • Make sure your learner’s webcam is working.

  • Find a quiet place for your learner to attend.

  • Make sure that any required materials are ready - paper, pen, tape, and scissors are required.

4. 5 minutes before class

  • Login to your Zoom meeting, enter password.

  • You will see a message that says “Please wait for the host to start the meeting”. Be patient, your coordinator will arrive!

  • Cameras must be on to participate in the session.

  • Screen names should be the student’s first name to allow coordinators to call on them by name.

  • Students may be muted upon entering the session.

 

How to prepare for your first in-person session.

1. Fill out, sign, and return all forms and waivers.

2. Plan to arrive on time with a bag, notebook, writing instrument, water bottle, mask, comfortable shoes and appropriate clothing. Someone will take your temperature upon arriving on campus.

3. The UHM School of Architecture is located at 2410 Campus Road. Travelling Mauka on Univeristy Avenue, after passing the Metcalf Street intersection, take a right into an open parking lot. Paid parking is available in the green stalls. Street parking is also available.
