Everyone does!

“Who designs Hawaiʻi” gathers local designers in architecture, landscape architecture, interiors, planning, graphic arts, education, and engineering, among other professions, to share what they do and to engage kids in the thinking and making processes that are involved in the design of our built environment. Our sessions and workshops are offered through online sessions or in-person workshops.

Who is hosting this?

The University of Hawaiʻi Community Design Center (UHCDC), University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa School of Architecture, and the Hawaiʻi Architectural Foundation (HAF) are pleased to provide this educational resource to to promote the value of design and to support our next generation of thinkers, makers, and doers. We need creative problem solvers to address the critical issues facing our island home and planet: climate change, sea level rise, housing, transportation, infrastructure, health, equity…the list goes on!

University of Hawaiʻi Community Design Center

We are university faculty, staff, and students committed to helping Hawaiʻi through community-engaged public interest research and design. The UHM School of Architecture established UHCDC as a multi-disciplinary teaching practice that applies the resources of the university to the environmental design needs of the community.

Hawaiʻi Architectural Foundation

The Hawaiʻi Architectural Foundation (HAF) is a non-profit organization that gained 501c3 status in 2003. The mission of HAF is to inspire people to discover why design matters and to engage the public in shaping our island communities. HAF provides a tax-deductible way to fund appropriate AIA-related activities that the architectural community has never before had available. Hawaiʻi is one of 24 other states, the District of Columbia and four national foundations with similar efforts.
