STUDENT ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY
The University of Hawaii Community Design Center (UHCDC) is offering access to virtual platforms for student use. This document contains the Acceptable Use Policy for use of all platforms, computers, software and/or Internet access (CAC Network) while working with a UHCDC program.
This form needs to be reviewed and completed prior to participation in a program that includes use of digital devices and/or access to the Internet as a requirement of the program. Participants under the age of 18 need to have this form completed by a parent or guardian.
A. Educational Purpose
UHCDC access to computer devices and the Internet has been established for a limited educational purpose. The term "educational purpose" includes classroom activities and activities undertaken under the direction of a UHCDC instructor.
You may not use The UHCDC Network for commercial purposes. This means you may not offer, provide, or purchase products or services through The UHCDC Network.
You may not use the UHCDC Network for political lobbying.
B. Program Participant Internet & Software Access
You may have access to Internet World Wide Web information resources.
You may be provided with an individual digital account to enable your full participation in the program.
You may be provided a link and password to a secure group chat or video conference platform facilitated by UHCDC staff. This link and password must not be shared.
C. Unacceptable Uses
The following uses of The UHCDC Network are considered unacceptable:
a. You will not post personal contact information about yourself or other people. Personal contact information includes your home address, telephone, school address, etc.
b. You will not agree to meet with someone you have met online.
c. You will not use foul or demeaning language (cyber bullying) or make foul of demeaning gestures in any group virtual discussions or chat rooms. You shall promptly disclose to your UHCDC instructor any message you receive that is inappropriate or makes you feel uncomfortable.
d. You will not privately chat or meet with other participants or adults in an unsupervised virtual setting.
2. Illegal Activities
a. You will not attempt to gain unauthorized access to The UHCDC Network or to any other computer system through The UHCDC Network or go beyond your authorized access. This includes attempting to log in through another person's account or access another person's files. These actions are illegal, even if only for the purposes of "browsing".
b. You will not use The UHCDC Network to engage in any other illegal act, such as arranging for a drug sale or the purchase of alcohol, engaging in criminal gang activity, threatening the safety of a person, etc.
3. System Security
a. If you are assigned an account you are responsible for your individual account and should take all reasonable precautions to prevent others from being able to use your account. Under no conditions should you provide your password to another person.
b. You will immediately notify the UHCDC Instructor if you have identified a possible security problem.
c. Do not download any software. This will avoid inadvertent spread of computer viruses.
4. Inappropriate Language & Privacy
a. You will not use obscene, profane, lewd, vulgar, rude, inflammatory, threatening, or disrespectful language in public messages, private messages, and material posted on Web pages.
b. You will not use obscene, profane, lewd, vulgar, rude, inflammatory, threatening, or disrespectful gestures during virtual group discussions.
c. You will not engage in personal attacks, including prejudicial or discriminatory attacks.
d. You will not harass another person. Harassment is persistently acting in a manner that distresses or annoys another person. If you are told by a person to stop sending them messages, you must stop.
e. You will not re-post a message that was sent to you privately without permission of the person who sent you the message.
5. Plagiarism
a. You will not plagiarize works that you find on the Internet. Plagiarism is taking the ideas or writings of others and presenting them as if they were yours.
