Inflatables 101
Lance Walters, Associate Professor, UHM School of Architecture

Learn about inflatable architecture and see some of the many inflatable spaces that architecture students at UH School of Architecture have built. Designing with Light & Shadow
Ana Molinar-Ruiz, WhiteSpace Architects

As architects we design with many elements you can touch - like walls, floors, and ceilings. But did you know that we also design with elements that you cannot touch? Light & shadow are some of the most important elements architects have to think about. If ignored in design, spaces can end up extremely uncomfortable; but when done right they help create beautiful spaces. In this session we will look at some creative examples of light & shadow in design, and then explore ourselves with a fun activity!

Design Communication

Designing for Ghouls 'n Goblins - Through the Eyes & Minds of Architects

This session will focus on a few key concepts about figure-ground and then we will break out to apply these ideas to each of our own Halloween themed assignments.

Who Designs Hawaiʻi? YOU DO!
Steve Hill & Keola Annino, UHM School of Architecture

Ever wonder how designers take an idea from their mind’s eye and make it into something we can use in the real world? Follow the journey as students at the UHM School of Architecture design and build one- of-a-kind furniture for their families and themselves. Along the way we will focus on the process of thinking about a design problem and finding a good solution by using hands-on model making. In this way, you can design cool stuff that will make you happy – and you don’t even need a computer!
